What is the “Standard American Disease Care Model” when dealing with chronic diseases?

We often talk about the Standard American Diet (SAD) and how it is a disservice to our health but the buck doesn't stop there. The Standard American Disease Treatment, I just coined that term to relate it to the acronym of the SAD it’s not a thing; yet . How we treat chronic disease in this country falls just as short and solidifies the consequences that come from the SAD. Our healthcare system is a mirror image of our health. When we talk about our healthcare systems being broken the reason is because our health is broken as well, our food system is broken, and our products are filled with toxins. And it is up to us to care enough to learn, to become responsible for our health, and demand the change.
When a person suffers from any chronic disease (i.e. diabetes, cardiovascular problems=HBP, hypertension, cholesterol issues that lead to plaque build-up, asthma, ulcerative colitis, IBS, arthritis, RA, etc.) the standard model of medicine does not look at the cause of any of these. When a doctor treats your chronic illness what they are doing is treating symptoms of a disease. The treatments offered by our standard western medical care do not heal or reverse the disease because those are not the diseases but in fact only the symptoms of the actual disease, metabolic imbalance.
Out of all of these metabolic imbalance symptoms the easiest to relate to metabolism would probably be diabetes. In 2019 the number of diabetics worldwide rose to 463 million or 6% of the world population. In the US alone the number of people with diabetes in 2020 was 34.2 million or 10.5% of the population. This number will continue to increase as in 2018 an estimated 88 million adults had prediabetes with 89% of them being overweight or being obese. And while weight gain can be a great marker for this, weight gain is only a symptom which means you can have metabolic imbalance and be at a “healthy” weight or be overweight and not have metabolic imbalance. In fact 20% of obese people are metabolically healthy and about 40% of the population that falls under normal weight are metabolically ill. But the standard treatment for diabetes is the use of drugs like metformin which reduces the absorption of sugar through the intestines and reduces the amount of sugar the liver produces. And while patients on Metformin do in fact reduce the amount of sugar in the bloodstream it still does not address the reason why there was an abnormal amount of glucose in the bloodstream to begin with.
So, why should we care? As a society why does it matter that we are not finding the cause of the disease when we are still saying the lives of the people with the disease?
Well, first and foremost we should care because no one wants to take medication when there could be an actual cure! All medications have side-effects and so in taking medications we open ourselves up to have additional issues to have to contend with. But even more we should care because health as well as agricultural policies are made based upon the same model we use to treat disease.
Take the current viral issue as an example we have a virus that has spread throughout our community/our planet/the world. How has the world/medical community (in power) dealt with the situation? One straightforward answer has been provided as the solution. Taking a jab. The same way we go to the doctor’s office and are diagnosed with diabetes and are given a pill. But now we have a mutation in the virus so the solution to this issue is now taking a third jab.
Resembling when you go back to your doctor’s office and say well my blood sugar is great but now I have heartburn so, they give you another pill. The virus has 29 surface proteins and the jab generates an immune response to one of those. Just as the blood sugar is one symptom of the disease but others will continue to come up accompanied by the drug side effects.
We can think of the virus mutation as the drug side effects now we do not treat the source of the side effect symptom which is use of the drug, to begin with, but instead just treat that symptom. The cascade continues indefinitely. And THIS is a main reason why we should care because that method of treatment will propagate to policies of general population treatment. If we treat the underlying metabolic imbalance we treat the diabetes symptom and therefore eliminate the need for the drug as well as eliminate it’s side effects. If we allow for natural immunity we create herd immunity to all 29 surface proteins preventing the spread and infection of any mutating or mutated form of the virus.
And while this herd immunity is achieved we should work on eliminating the source of the issue that brought our country to have such high rates or mortality to begin with. Metabolic Imbalance.
That is where your gut comes in! Correcting the dysbiosis in your gut is one of the most important things do in order to achieve correction of your metabolic imbalance. A healthy gut will provide you with a healthy immune response and better mental health. Allowing you to enjoy life for years to come disease free.
